‘Dirty’ lube oils for your car outlawed from the UAE

New regulations on lubricating oils for internal combustion engines

DUBAI 28 March 2017: Make sure you do not use ‘dirty’ lube oil in your car – the authorities are getting tough and have banned some from the UAE to ensure cleaner air to breathe for all of us.

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma) and the Gulf Standards Organisation (GSO), have implemented new regulations relating to the minimum requirements of the approved standards for lubricating oils for internal combustion engines (GSO 1785: 2013), across the Gulf.

The service categories of API CG-4, CF-4 and CF are no longer approved for sale in the UAE and are no longer listed in the new GSO regulation. Other countries including Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have also implemented the same minimum standards.

Esma is supporting this green initiative, environmental protection, health and safety and protection of consumer rights, through issuance of technical regulations and standards in the field of lubricating oils for internal combustion.

Esma also monitors the implementation of these regulations to enhance the quality of life and sustainable development in supporting the economy of UAE.
