Dubai aims at ‘no accidents’ on 2nd of September

DUBAI 1 August 2018: Dubai Police has launched the ‘No Accidents Day’ campaign for the start of the new school year next month.

Major General Ahmed bin Mohammed Bin Thani, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, launched the campaign for the first day of the new school year on 2-9-2018 – a day without traffic accidents.

Dubai Police website contains a ‘pledge document’ for drivers and members of the community to participate in the campaign by registeringon https://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/…/misce…/day_without_accident.

The pledges are:

  • Compliance with the laws of traffic
  • Use of seat belt
  • Driving safety
  • Adhering to road speed limit and
  • Leaving a safe distance between vehicles

Maj Gen Thani said the campaign comes within the framework of the Dubai Police General Command’s keenness to ensure that there are no accidents on the day students return to their schools.

He said the campaign will be organised every year to mark the beginning of each new school year.

“We will be measure the impact and results,” he said.

Accident Statistics

Brigadier General Abdullah Al Ghaithi said that the campaign aims to prevent accidents, particularly deaths, on the first day of the academic year. He pointed out that the Dubai Police is always striving to achieve its strategic goal of being a safe city.

Al Ghaithi pointed out that during the first week of the last academic year 2017 Dubai Police recorded 58 traffic accidents resulting in 3 deaths, 23 serious injuries, 35 moderate injuries.

Brigadier General Al Ghaithi urged the drivers to adhere to speed, not to use mobile phones while driving, to adhere to the traffic lanes and not to be preoccupied with other things while driving, and not to drive in case of physical exhaustion.

Brigadier General Al Mazroui urged drivers to abide by the stop signs used on school buses and not to pass them. The violation carries a fine of Dh1,000 and 10 black points, according to the traffic law.
