Emirati women account for 30% of lawyers in UAE

ABU DHABI 2 September 2017:  The number of Emirati female lawyers registered with the Ministry of Justice reached 280 till the end of the first half of 2017, hitting a record 99 per cent of Emiratisation, according to official figures.

The Ministry of Justice’s statistics showed that female lawyers accounted for 28 per cent of the total tally listed in the ministry roll of 988 lawyers.

”A total of 405 lawyers of the roll were registered with the Federal Supreme Court,” the statistics noted.

Zayed Al Shamsi, Emirates Association For Lawyers and Legal, told the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that women now constitute nearly one-third of the workforce in the advocacy profession a high percentage that many advanced nations haven’t achieved.

He said that the Association has partnered with prominent local and international legal firms to provide professional- and capacity-building training programmes to its members.
