Food Alert: There is no ‘plastic’ rice: Food Control Authority

All rice fit for human consumption: ADFCA

ABU DHABI 31 May 2017: All types of rice available in Abu Dhabi are fit for human consumption and all imported food consignments are subject to full control and inspection prior to their release to the market, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority said in a statement Tuesday.

ADFCA scotched rumours circulated by social media channels, regarding the spread of what is called “plastic rice”, labelling them as false and that all types of rice in the market are within the approved specifications, said Wam..

All video footages alleging that rice is being manufactured by plastic propagate misinformation, said the statement, noting that there is rather ‘artificial rice’ on the market, which is made from broken rice, with the addition of other cereals.

ADFCA urged consumers in the statement not to follow such misleading and unrealistic rumours, stressing that all imported food consignments are being thoroughly checked and inspected prior to release to the market in order to ensure the highest food safest standards.

The statement highlighted the channels of communications provided by ADFCA to keep the public posted on all relevant information, including the free toll 8000555 and the ADFCA website along with other media organs to which ADFCA sends all updates in response to any food-related rumours.
