UAE hails decisions taken by Saudi Arabia on Khashoggi case

RIYADH 21 October 2018: An official source at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said that the King of Saudi Arabia has ordered the Public Prosecutor to investigate the circumstances surrounding the “regrettable and painful incident of Jamal Khashoggi’s death”, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

According to the state agency, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud also ordered the formation of a committee to review the case and hold all those involved accountable “no matter who they are” and to deal “decisively and comprehensively with any mistake or failure, particularly concerning any citizens, regardless of any considerations.”

The source added that, “These measures reflect the leadership’s keenness (to ensure) the safety and security of all the citizens of the homeland and its determination not just to hold the direct defaulters and officials accountable, but also to include corrective measures preventing the occurrence of such grave error in the future.”

The source further stated according to SPA that the Saudi government appreciates the “distinguished cooperation accorded by the Republic of Turkey under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with its cooperation and efforts having contributed importantly to the investigation into the killing of the citizen Jamal Khashoggi,” adding that the Kingdom “also appreciates the wise stances of the states which preferred to be amenable to waiting (for the) findings of the investigations and avoided unfounded speculation and allegations.”

Kashoggi was killed in Istanbul, reports say. He was a journalist.

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has praised the directives issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, and the decisions he has taken regarding the unfortunate and tragic incident that killed Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi.

In a statement issued on Saturday to Wam, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, commended King Salman for his great efforts to explore the truth and seek legal accountability, which he said reflects the transparency and justice in his decision-making on the case.

Sheikh Abdullah added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by its leadership, always has been and remains to be, a nation built on just and fair state institutions. The UAE Minister further stated that the royal decisions and actions taken following the investigation in this case reaffirm those values and the established principles which ensure the execution of law and justice.

Sheikh Abdullah concluded his statement by asking God Almighty to preserve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership and people, and to protect them from any harm.
