19 tons of waste recovered from Hamriya Port

DUBAI 22 October 2019: Divers from Dubai Police have managed to recover 19 tons of waste from Dubai Creek.

The dive was part of Dubai Police annual voluntary community initiative – Let our marine environment be clean.

The campaign has cleaned the Creek of 19 tons of waste with the help of hundreds of volunteers from dive professionals to enthusiasts.

This year, volunteers in the Clean Marine Environment Initiative succeeded in recovering 3 tons of marine waste in the Hamriya Port area of ​​Dubai compared with 6 tons of waste last year.

Colonel Saeed Al Madhani, Director of the Port Police Department, said that the Marine Rescue Department, in cooperation with the General Administration of Transport and Rescue, has succeeded in lifting 19 tons of marine waste since the launch of the initiative.

Lt. Col. Ali Abdullah Al Qassaybi Al Naqbi, Head of Marine Rescue Department at the Port Police Station, said that the initiative was launched by the Dubai Police’s keenness on community participation and contribution to make Dubai’s land and marine environment a sustainable environment free of pollutants.

He added that the initiative was attended by 405 professional and amateur divers, as well as the participation of the women, individuals and workers. Diving teams were deployed on marine rescue boats and 17 diving points were set up.

Waste included tires, cans, ropes, electrical appliances and plastic containers – all threat to marine environment and life.
