Man faces jail…for a fistful of apples

Claimed he bought carrots not apples

An Irish man could be jailed after he was caught cheating the famous British Tesco supermarket by claiming he bought carrots not the more expensive apples.

Aidan Martin Devlin from Belfast admitted stealing apples by pretending they were carrots on supermarket scales before taking them to the checkout.

Carrots are a third of the price, magistrates were told as he pleaded guilty to 12 counts.

The 53-year-old will be sentenced in two weeks according to the Belfast Telegraph.

He pleaded guilty to 12 counts off dishonestly making a false representation earlier this year at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court.

Another 13 charges of fraud were withdrawn.

Tesco’s website shows apples go for £2 per kilo compared to carrots going for 60p.
