DUBAI 29 January 2019: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday praised the enterprise of a young Syrian expatriate.

“I visited Souq.com today. Amazon has acquired this multi-billion dirham enterprise, started by a young Syrian, Ronaldo Mouchawar, years ago in Dubai. I’m proud of Ronaldo, and say to all Arab youth that Dubai is the city of your dreams, fueled by young ambition,” His Highness tweeted after the visit.

He said the success of homegrown companies that have forged partnerships with major global corporations highlights Dubai’s dynamism as an investment destination.

Sheikh Mohammed affirmed Dubai’s commitment to open market policies, providing facilities and incentives to attract leading international companies across sectors, and supporting competition between local and international companies.

Souq.com’s Fulfillment Centre in Dubai South is projected to create 600+ jobs in the first year of operations.

Sheikh Mohammed also visited the Aviation District, which is set to cover an area of 145 square kilometers near the
