India infections cross 25m; 3.5 million dead globally

ABU DHABI 19 May 2021: More than 162.71 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 3,512,115​ have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

Meanwhile, India’s total coronavirus cases surged past the 25 million mark on Tuesday, boosted by 263,533 new infections over the last 24 hours, while deaths from Covid-19 rose by a record 4,329, Reuters reported.

India becomes the world’s second nation, after the United States, to pass the grim milestone.

The country’s total case load is now at 25.23 million, while the death toll is at 278,719, according to health ministry data.

1,270 new cases, 1,250 recoveries, 4 deaths in UAE

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) conducted 202,184 additional Covid-19 tests, and announced 1,270 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 548,681.

MoHAP also announced 4 deaths due to Covid-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,637.

The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished Covid-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.

MoHAP also noted that an additional 1,250 individuals had fully recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 528,769

The total number of doses provided up to today stands at 11,594,068 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 117.23 doses per 100 people.
