DUBAI 4 January 2019: Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, has said that the New Year’s Eve celebrations were a great success, with no traffic or security violations reported, thanks to unwavering efforts of the Events Security Committee (ESC) overseeing the celebrations with the participation of 40 entities from concerned sectors.

“No incidents, security breaches or injuries were reported during the New Year celebrations, although more than two million people gathered across the emirate to participate in the celebrations,” Al Marri added.

Commenting on the success of the night, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted, “Millions of people celebrated in Dubai, hundreds of millions watched the celebrations, and it was easy and seamless. We thank the unknown soldiers behind hosting such a successful event. Dear event organising committee, I am always proud of you.”

Dubai Police deployed 4,000 officers on duty as well as 2,000 patrol teams across the city to manage security and ensure the safety of everyone during the night, said Wam.

The police force had also allocated 12,000 surveillance cameras to monitor venues and surrounding residential areas around the main celebration spots.
