General Motors to investigate offensive act

DUBAI 26 June 2018: Obscene images were splashed across Chevrolet Arabia’s Twitter page in what the company has described as a cyber attack.

General Motors, the parent company, will investigate the attack, said a company statement.

“On the night of June 24th, 2018, Chevrolet Arabia’s Twitter account was subject to an offensive cyber act which led to the spread of obscene imagery through our digital platform,” said the statement from General Motors and Chevrolet Middle East

“This attack specifically targeted the Chevrolet #uptome campaign which was launched on the morning of June 24th in celebration of a milestone moment for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“We apologise to all our followers, customers and the general public unreservedly for the obscenity that may have been witnessed on our feed or other posts linked to this offensive cyber act. In collaboration with our partners, we took the immediate necessary steps to stop this offensive cyber act and eliminate all traces of it as it runs absolutely counter to the values of Chevrolet and General Motors.

“General Motors will perform a thorough investigation with its partners and the local and regional authorities to hold those responsible for this offensive cyber act accountable.”
