LONDON 20 June 2017: One man has been killed, and eight others injured when a van struck worshippers near a North London mosque overnight, London’s Metropolitan Police say.
The Finsbury Park incident is now being investigated by the Counter Terrorism Command, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said early this morning, said Wam.
The driver of the van, so far identified as a 48-year-old man, was arrested on terror charges after he was detained by members of the public at the scene, the police said in a statement.
UAE condemns terror attack in London
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates, UAE, has condemned the terrorist attack that took place near the Finsbury Park Mosque, in North London.
”The UAE condemns this terrorist act and reiterates its unshakeable position against all forms of violence and terrorism, which target all without the distinction of religion and race, and regardless of sources and pretexts,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in a statement on Monday.
”The UAE stands with the Government of Britain in its fight against violence and extremism, and it calls on the international community to stand together in confronting and uprooting this dangerous menace, which threatens the security and stability of countries,” the ministry added.
The ministry also expressed its deep condolences to the British Government and people, as well as to the families of the victims of this heinous crime.
It also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.
UAE condemns terrorist attack in France
The UAE has condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Champs-Elysees in Paris on Monday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation condemned this cowardly terrorist act and emphasised the UAE’s unwavering stance that rejects all forms of violence and terrorism that target everyone, regardless of religion or race.
The ministry stressed the UAE’s support for France in the face of violence, terrorism and extremism. It called on the international community to stand united to eliminate terrorism that poses threat to global security and stability.
Bahrain condemns terror attack in UK
MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain has strongly condemned the heinous attack which targeted worshippers near Finsbury Park Mosque in north London, killing one and injuring 10 others.
In its statement, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sincere condolences to the British Government and families of the victims of this crime which targeted innocents and aimed to terrorise them and threaten their lives,” the Bahrain News Agency reported.
“The ministry affirms that Bahrain stands with the friendly United Kingdom in rejecting violence and terrorism in all of its forms, and reiterates its support for the measures taken by the UK in such circumstances to protect the security of citizens and residents on its territories. The ministry stresses the importance of concerted efforts to act resolutely and without hesitation on eradicating terrorism which has no boundaries nor faith and aims to destabilise the security and stability of all world countries,” the statement added.
Jordan condemns London mosque terror attack
AMMAN: Jordan on Monday condemned the terror attack that targeted Muslim worshippers near Finsbury Park Mosque in north London, killing one person and injuring at least ten others.
Mohammad Momani, Jordan Minister of State for Media Affairs, was quoted by the Petra news agency as saying, that this heinous crime reveals the evil nature of these criminal groups who are flaming hatred among followers of the world’s religions.
Momani, who is also the government’s spokesperson, reiterated Jordan’s rejection of violence and terrorism, in all its shapes and forms, that aim at creating hatred and chaos. He expressed Jordan’s solidarity with the UK in facing terrorist groups, calling for unifying international efforts to combat terrorism and counter extremist ideologies.
Momani expressed the government’s sympathy with families of the victims.
Al Azhar Al Sharif condemns London mosque attack
CAIRO: Al Azhar Al Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a number of worshipers near a Finsbury Park mosque in London, killing one person and wounding 10 others.
In a statement today, Al Azhar affirmed its categorical rejection of this racist attack, calling on Western countries to take on necessary measures to limit the spread of Islamophobia and ensure that such incidents targeting Muslims are not repeated, as they violate the humanitarian values and principles that guarantee everyone the right to live in peace and security regardless of their beliefs or nationalities.
Al Azhar Al Sharif offered its sincere condolences to the families of the victims in this brutal and painful incident, and wished them a speed recovery.
