ABU DHABI 8 December 2018: The Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies has welcomed the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to the United Arab Emirates, which will take place from 3rd to 5th February.

The statement came in the closing statement of 5th Annual Conference of the Forum, held in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Alliance of Virtues An Opportunity for Global Peace”.

The Forum said Pope Francis’ visit culminates UAE’s endeavours to promote tolerance, peace and moderation globally.

Some 800 representatives of various religions, international human rights organisations, and a wide range of scholars, thinkers and researchers worldwide took part in the forum, said Wam.

Peace Convoys

The conference’s closing statement recommended formation of a committee to draft a charter for the ‘Alliance of Virtues’. It also called for adopting the model of peace convoys as a tool for cooperation and co-existence.

The key objective of the ‘Alliance of Virtues’ is to establish a collaboration among different scholars and intellectuals to promote peace, to reject exploitation of religion in conflicts and wars, to instill positive and inclusive citizenship, to respect all faiths and to combat religious persecution.

The final day of the conference saw a number of panels, discussing experiences of various organisations in promoting peace and providing humanitarian assistance.
