RAS AL KHAIMAH 9 October 2018: Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, yesterday launched the ‘Buildings Modernisation Programme’ at Ras Al Khaimah Municipality.
The programme aims to restore around 3,000 buildings by 2040, and is a key cornerstone of the emirate’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040.
It aims to reduce energy consumption by 30 per cent, water consumption by 20 per cent, and generate 20 per cent of energy through renewable energy sources by 2040, to make the emirate a model to follow in implementing related strategies, most notably Resolution No.15 for 2018 that was issued to modernise local government buildings.
According to the resolution, all local government authorities are expected to implement a range of measures to increase the energy efficiency of their buildings, by collecting relevant information, conducting energy audits to assess potential savings, and drafting modernisation plans if potential savings are identified. Several energy management measures that focus on rapid gains will also be conducted.
Monther Mohammed bin Shukr Al Zaabi, Director-General of the RAK Municipality, said that the programme aims to reduce the consumption of electricity and water by at least 20 per cent by 2022, as part of the emirate’s plan to implement its 2040 strategy.
The event was attended by many officials from government authorities, private sector companies, environmental services companies, energy services companies and the media.
