DUBAI 25 September 2018: An ‘entangled’ Oryx was rescued and freed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
It appears that while on one of his rides on the outskirts of Dubai, the Crown Prince spotted a much distressed oryx whose head was entangled in what seemed to be a mesh of thick strings or ropes. It was in obvious discomfort as it tried to shake the tangle off its head – but to no avail.
That is until Sheikh Hamdan spotted it and decided to free it.
As it was difficult to catch the animal by hand, Sheikh Hamdan used a tranquilizer dart gun. He got the running oryx with his shot – and then got down to free the tangle from its horns.
A sprinkling of water from his bottle and the much relieved oryx was on his feet and off to a much-deserved rest in the wild.
