Sharjah Sports announces names of 16 team

 

SHARJAH 30 May 2017: The second Sharjah Ramadan Football Championship (SRFC) kicks off on May 30th at the Sharjah Sports & Cultural Club, with prizes worth Dh500,000.

Sharjah Sports has announced the names of the 16 teams who will be participating in this year’s championship.

Amateur teams from across the UAE’s seven emirates were placed in a lottery to decide who will participate in this year’s edition of what is the largest sporting event organised by a media organisation in Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

The names of the 16 teams are:

  • Group (A) includes Royal, Al Watania, Al Bahri and Al Burkan
  • Group (B) to includes Sports 4 All, CR7, La Magica and Al Alami
  • Group (C) includes Al Ameed, Al Embrator, Forsan Al Muwaleef and Al Zaeem
  • Group (D) includes Extra, Al Jawarih, Al Hamriya and Markaz Al Shabab

The 16 teams taking part in the SRFC will be battling it over a series of rounds to win cash prizes. The overall winner of the competition will collect Dh200,000, the first runner up Dh100,000 and the third place Dh50,000. There will also be prizes for star players in the tournament, as well as for audience members attending over the 2 weeks of matches.

The structure of the SRFC has been formulated especially so that players can honour their religious obligations before playing. Matches start at 10:30 pm, with three games being held daily during the qualifying phase. Rules and regulations of the championship follow the standard in-door football games, each match has a total period of 15 minutes without stoppage time, with the semi-finals and finals matches going for 20 minutes per match. Penalty shootouts will decide the winning team in the event of a draw in the scores during towards the final phases of the championship.

All games will be broadcast live on Sharjah Sports. The champion will last for 2 weeks with a 2-day break around the semi-finals and finals period. Monday June 12th will mark as the 2nd edition of the championship’s final game, which will be held under the presence of the highest-profiles of attendees from Sharjah and the UAE.

Sharjah Ramadan Sports Tournament aims to build on the success of its first edition held in 2016, which resulted in The Royal team take the top spot after a thrilling final match that saw them beat Al Humaidi 5-3. Mohammed Abdallah Moustafawi from Al Jawarih was named the top goal scorer of the tournament with an impressive tally of nine goals, while Adel Hassan Al Ali from Al Bahri was crowned the competition’s best overall player.

Football forms a large part of Sharjah Sports’ output, with the channel covering the UAE President’s Cup, First Division Football League, Asian Champions League and AFC Football Asian Cup. The channel provides full coverage of games, with its studio presenters and guests offering detailed discussion and analysis. Its programming also includes ‘Panorama,’ which is dedicated to football and ‘The Round,’ which covers local football-related activities.
