ABU DHABI 20 June 2017: The Federal Supreme Court has upheld a number of verdicts previously issued by the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal, rejecting requests for adjustment in three cases involving Asian and Arab nationalities.
In the first case, the court upheld a 10-year imprisonment term against “Sh.M.G.M”, a 35-year-old Asian and ordered all telecommunication devices used during the crime be confiscated and the convict be deported after serving his jail term, bearing him to pay all the charges and expenses of the judicial lawsuit pressed against him, said Wam.
In the second case, the court upheld a three-year jail sentence and an AED 500,000 fine against “T.H.M.S.N”, a 45-year old Arab, ordering the convict be deported after serving his jail term and confiscation of all telecommunication devices used during the crime, bearing him to pay all the charges and expenses of the judicial lawsuits pressed against him.
The convict had been charged by the Court of Appeals with setting up Facebook and Twitter accounts where he used to propagate misinformation that is likely to distort the country’s reputation.
In the third case, the court upheld a three-year imprisonment term against “A’.H.E.G”, a 25-year old Arab, and ordered the convict be deported after serving his jail term.
The convict was charged with attempting to join a terrorist organisation, Al-Nusra Front or “Jabhat al-Nusra”, and launching channels of communication across social media with the terror group and with other websites run by Al Qaeda and Daesh terrorist organisations, whereby he promoted their fanatic ideologies. He was as well charged with co-plotting with another suspect for perpetrating terrorist crimes inside the country and attempting to inflict damage on public places, using explosives.
