Tips to make your summer travel easier

DUBAI 29 June 2019: The summer holidays start this weekend, sparking a surge in the number of travellers jetting out of Abu Dhabi. To help ease the stress of peak period travel, from today until Monday, 15 July, Etihad Airways has the following tips – particularly for families.

Early Check-in

  • Guests should arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure.
  • Early check-in is available at the Abu Dhabi City Terminal, in the Tourist Club area
  • Each morning from 5-7 and 12-14 July, early check-in will be available at the airport five hours prior to departure.

Family Check-in

  • From 27 June until 15 July, a dedicated Family Check-In area will be provided in Terminal 3 for guests travelling with young children or infants.

Check-in and Boarding Times

  • Economy Class check-in for non-US flights will open three hours before departure and close one hour before
  • Travellers to the US must check in at least two hours before departure and present at US Customs and Border Protection no later than 90 minutes before departure.
  • Boarding for all Etihad flights closes 20 minutes before departure for all guests.

Change of Check-in Location

Because large numbers of guests are departing Abu Dhabi, Economy check-in for some flights will be relocated to Terminal 1 from 5-7 July and 12-14 July.  These flights are:

  • EY535 to Beirut, departing at 9:25 am
  • EY653 to Cairo, departing at 9:55 am
  • EY428 to Manila, departing 10:35 am
  • EY513 to Amman, departing 10:55 am
  • EY533 to Beirut, departing 11:15 am

Etihad Airways Mobile App

  • With the Etihad mobile app, guests can check in 30 hours before departure
  • Download an electronic boarding pass from the Apple App Store or Android Play.

Online Check-in

  • Online check-in is available on Etihad’s website, etihad.com.
  • Self-service kiosks are available to print boarding passes in Terminals 1 and 3

Smart Travel

  • Smart Travel’ immigration e-gates are available for registered UAE nationals and residents. Guests simply scan their passport and boarding pass

Etihad Baggage Policy

  • Etihad stringently enforces its cabin baggage policy of 7kg for Economy Class and 12kg for First and Business Class.
  • Before proceeding to the airport, guests should check their e-ticket or the Etihad website for the baggage allowance matching their fare, destination or travel class.

Pre-purchase travel options

  • Guests can pre-purchase seating and upgrade options via Etihad.com
  • Economy guests can purchase access to Etihad’s Business lounges in T1 and T3
  • Business guests can purchase access to our First Class Lounge and Spa
