Abu Dhabi Customs foils smuggle attempt at Al Ghuwaifat border

ABU DHABI 18 July 2017: Abu Dhabi Customs have foiled an attempt to smuggle 2kg of crystal meth at Al Ghuwaifat Border, following a tip from the Drug Enforcement Section in Al Dhafra.

A vehicle driven by an Asian man raised suspicions and a search by inspectors revealed the Class A narcotics. Inspectors issued a seizure report, confiscated the drugs, and referred the truck driver to authorities to face legal action.

Mohamed Khadem Al Hameli, Acting Director-General of the General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi, said that the seizure proves the experience and the efficiency of customs inspectors, praising their key role in protecting the country from all smuggling attempts. He said, “The General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi continues to invest in developing the capabilities of its human resources to support their role in protecting our homeland.”

Al Hameli added, “The administration continues to coordinate and cooperate with related government entities to facilitate the movement of legal trade and travellers across borders and prevent smuggling attempts which threaten the safety of the UAE and its residents. The administration’ employees are the country’s first line of defence in maintaining safety across its land, sea and air ports.”
