DUBAI 1 May 2019: With a population of 26.8 million, Yemen is in urgent need of immediate aid; around eighty percent of the population is facing either violence, hunger, malnutrition, lack of access to water and sanitation or all of these.

On April 30th 2019, the UAE  launched a water project in remote area in Khawkhah District, Hodeidah Governorate, to fulfil the needs of Yemeni people in Red Sea Coast.

The project includes the restoration of an artesian well, a 100,000-litre water tank, a 36,000-metre water network, and a solar energy system, which will be vital in providing the people of the area with safe, secure access to water.

Mohamed Salim Al Junaibi, Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, Director of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, said that the project is being supervised by the ERC to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis.

Mohammed Yahia Abdul Salam, Director-General of Khawkhah District and Chairman of the Local Council, stated that the UAE has implemented many education, health, water, and electricity projects around the district, while noting that the water project will benefit over 15,000 people.

Many local residents praised the UAE for supporting them and launching key projects in the Red Sea Coast.
