ABU DHABI 5 June 2017: The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), has advised citizens against travelling to the United Kingdom, following recent terrorist attacks.

Ahmed Al Ham Al Dhaheri, MoFAIC’s Assistant Under-Secretary for Consular Affairs, said the warning has been issued due to the UAE’s concern about the safety of its citizens abroad, and is based on the ministry’s assessment of risks and threats, said Wam.

The ministry called upon UAE citizens in the UK to be cautious and avoid public areas at this time. It also said citizens would be informed about any development related to their security while abroad.

UAE condemns terrorist attacks in London

In a statement yesterday, the ministry emphasised the UAE’s firm stance against extremism and terrorism, stressing that London’s terrorist attacks reaffirm the urgent need for concerted international efforts to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations The ministry added that innocent civilians pay the price of these terrorist crimes, calling for joint cooperation and addressing this serious scourge that threatens the security and stability of countries all over the world.

The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing for a speedy recovery for those injured.

Death toll in London attack rises to 7

Seven people are now confirmed to have died in an attack by three assailants who drove a van at pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people in the nearby Borough Market area, London’s Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Cressida Dick, has announced, according to a report from Reuters news agency.

“It has now been confirmed sadly that seven members of the public have died. In addition, as you know, we believe, the three suspects are dead,” she said in a televised statement.

The Commissioner said that police believed the incident was under control, but officers needed to conduct a thorough search of the area to ensure everyone was accounted for and no further suspects were at large.

“Our priority now is to work with our colleagues in the national counter-terrorism police network and also with the intelligence agencies and other security services to establish more details about the individuals who carried out the attack and the background to it,” she said.

6 killed, 48 injured in terror incident in London

Six people were killed and another 48 were injured when a van ran over pedestrians and the vehicle occupants apparently stabbed civilians on London Bridge and in the nearby Borough Market area on Saturday night.

According to Reuters, an official said that all three attackers were shot dead by police, and the ambulance services had taken 48 people to hospitals throughout London after the attack. Others were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, described last night’s incident as “a possible terrorist act”.
