UMM AL QAIWAIN 12 June 2017: Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Qaiwain and Chairman of the Umm Al Qaiwain Executive Council, on Sunday witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between the Government of Umm Al Qaiwain and the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), to develop reverse osmosis desalination plants in the emirate.
The event was also attended by Sheikh Ali bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Chairman of the Municipality Department in Umm Al Qaiwain, and officials from both parties, said Wam.
The MoU was signed by Humaid Rashid Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of Umm Al Qaiwain, and Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, Director-General of Fewa.
The building of these water plants is part of the strategic objectives of the state to ensure and sustain freshwater sources. This comes in light of the steady increase in consumption in all residential, economic, industrial and cultural sectors in the UAE.
The authority has studied the latest technologies in the field of desalination, which help reduce production costs.
