Yas Racing: New season of non-stop motorsport

ABU DHABI 29 October 2018: The wait is finally over as local motorsport returns to the home of the F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for the Yas Racing Series first round.

Making its return to Yas Marina Circuit for a fifth consecutive season will be the TRD 86 Cup, again sponsored by Pirelli. The circuit’s single-make championship, features a mix of professional and amateur drivers competing head to head for a place on the podium across two separate categories – Gold and Silver. An additional round has also been added to the calendar making the series seven competitive rounds that will see the TRD 86 Cup winner crowned in March next year.

Racing has stepped up a gear this year with Reema Juffali, Saudi’s first female race license holder, taking to the start line of TRD 86 in the first round.

After a thrilling Championship last season, reigning series champion Saif Al Ameri will return alongside other well-known drivers, all fighting for the top stop.

Commenting on the return of Yas Racing Series, Phil Ellis TRD86 Cup Championship Manager, said: “We are delighted to see the return of Yas Racing Series for its fifth consecutive year and with that comes ever more local motorsport, providing a springboard for regional drivers and a superb spectacle for enthusiasts.”

“We have always prided ourselves on having an accessible platform for local drivers to race, in a safe and welcoming environment and that is why we are thrilled to see Reema Juffali’s name on the start sheet for this year’s TRD 86 Cup. This is why Yas Marina Circuit is known as the Meeting Place of Champions.”

Additionally, spectators will be able to take in all the action as the drivers compete for opening series points in the Formula Gulf Academy, Radical Middle East Cup and NGK Racing Series.

With a general admission tickets for the weekend’s packed schedule of events costing only Dh25 per person, its great value for all members of the family. There will also be a cash bar available in the Paddock Suites. Racing begins at 9:00am on Friday and Saturday.
