242 beggars nabbed in Ramadan project ‘Struggle’

DUBAI 17 May 2020: Dubai Police has arrested 242 beggars and hawkers under project ‘Struggle’ launched since the beginning of Ramadan.

Colonel Abdallah Ali Salem, Director of the Department of infiltrators and Criminal Investigation, said that intensification of patrols in various regions of the emirate, led to the seizure of 242 beggars (143 men and 21 women) and 78 vendors since the launch of the campaign.

Colonel Ali Salim explained that there is an integrated security plan to combat begging in cooperation with partners and intensify patrols in places expected to be frequented by beggars.

Colonel Ali Salim called on the public not to respond to beggars, or to be fooled by their appearance. People should report them to the police by calling 901) or Dubai Police smart app.

He also called on the community to help reduce begging by donating money to charities, so as to ensure funds reach the poor and needy.
