Pakistani fraudster rents flat to unsuspecting Bosnian

DUBAI 19 April 2017: A Pakistani allegedly subleased a flat he has rented against bad cheques and conned the tenant of Dh59,500, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

HM, 30, with the help of his compatriot HA, 28, fugitive, rented a flat in Dubai Silicon Oasis and issued cheques which later proved to be forged.

HM and his accomplice announced the flat for rent on a website.

ML, 30, form Bosnia contacted the given number and after viewing the flat he agreed on taking it.

“I issued two cheques of Dh4,000 and another for Dh55,500 values and handed them over to HA who presented photocopies of documents which stated that HM was the owner of the flat,” testified the victim.

A month passed and ML did not receive and electricity and water bill.
At that time the real estate office that was leasing the flat on behalf of its owner, found out that the cheques that HA had issued bounced.

Also the real estate office also found out that there was another tenant in the flat.

Checking the lease and other documents that ML supplied the real estate office, it was found out that ML has put his name as owner of the flat in the photocopy of the ownership certificate that he had it from the owner when he had rented the flat.

Police arrested HM but his accomplice who handed the documents to the victim and took the cheques remain at large.
