Yafei conquers highest peaks of Europe, Africa and Gulf in 2018

DUBAI 26 August 2018: Since the beginning of this year, Dubai policeman Ahmed Zein Al Yafei from the Directorate General for Airport Security, has conquered the three highest peaks in Europe (Elbrus), Africa (Kilimanjaro) and the Arabian Gulf (Mount Shams).

Al Yafei latest was the 5,642-meter high Elbrus in Europe during a six-day effort overcoming difficulties of snowstorms, strong winds and a steep descent due to getting low on oxygen.

The young police officer raised the slogan of the Year of Zayed and the new corporate identity of Dubai Police at the top, celebrating his third achievement in less than a year.

Brigadier General Mohammed Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Acting Director General of Airport Security, praised the perseverance, determination and challenge of the young policeman and his keenness to celebrate the Year of Zayed at the highest summits and to promote the new corporate identity of the Dubai Police which was launched at the beginning of the year.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Al Yafei, earlier this year managed to raise the flag of the Dubai Police and the emblem of the Year of Zayed at the highest mountain peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, at a height of 5,895 meters.

Earlier, he had successfully summited Mount Shams in Oman, which is the highest peak in the GCC.

Challenges

Al Yafei said that the biggest challenge he faced was a storm on the fourth day, which led them to resort to a cave on the mountain until the storm calmed. The second challenge was the avalanches close to the summit, which hampered the climb.

He added that the other difficulties he faced were lack of oxygen at the top of the mountain and low atmospheric pressure, which causes a person to feel tired, as well as low temperatures (Minus 16 degrees) which caused freezing of water used for drinking.
