Dubai launches smart bus on trial basis [video]

Smart buses to account for 25% of transport services

Dubai on Thursday launched a smart bus service on trial basis on Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard area and officials said the bus can accommodate 10 passengers.

The operation of the service on a 700 track in that area follows the successful launching of that service in other areas and is part of a plan by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to expand this technology through the emirate, RTA chairman Matar Al Tayer said, quoted by Emarat Al Youm daily.

He said Dubai aims to expand that service to 25 per cent of the city’s transport means by 2030, adding that there is a plan to send questionnaire to residents and visitors to have their opinions about this service.

He said the new bus would travel only short distances on programmed tracks but that it can be programmed for any change in routes.
