Dubai warns dangerous ‘selfie adventurers’ using high-rises

Building owners and managers to ensure safety

DUBAI: Dubai Municipality has issued strict warning against dangerous ‘selfie-adventurers’ using high-rise buildings.

In an official circular, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, has asked all owners and those in charge of public facilities and buildings to provide health and safety requirements in a way that ensures the safety of the public and does not endanger the lives of those who are at risk.

Khalid Mohammed Sharif, Assistant Director-General for the Environment, Health and Safety Control Sector, said that the municipality is keen to achieve the strategic objectives of safety and ensure the safety of the community.

Sharif explained that on the basis of the Local Order No. 11 of 2003 and its executive regulations, Dubai Municipality issued a circular aimed at emphasising that owners or those in charge of public facilities and buildings are to provide all health and safety requirements that ensure the protection of society from risks.

The circular obliges owners and those in charge of public places and buildings to provide security and surveillance around the clock to prevent unauthorised persons from infiltrating parts of buildings such as roofs and high beams. “The circular also highlighted the need for installation of CCTV, electronic sensors and safety systems that ensure that any unauthorised access to those places is restricted,” Mr. Sharif added.

He appealed to all owners and those in charge of public and residential buildings to report any violations in this regard, to adhere to the terms of the circular and to not allow any violations of rules, regulations and local orders in force for the safety of the community.
