A Saudi hospital is refusing to hand over a dead woman to her husband on the grounds he has not fully paid the bill.
The hospital in the Western Red Sea town of Jeddah has been keeping the body for nearly two weeks since the 28-year-old woman died while giving birth.
Sada newspaper said the infant was born dead and quoted doctors as saying the woman died of heart failure.
It said the hospital is demanding SR200,000 (Dh200,000) fees from the husband, adding that friends and relatives had already paid SR40,000 (Dh40,000).
“The hospital refused to hand the body over unless the husband pays the remaining sum…health officials said the hospital has no right to keep the body,” it said.
