How to keep your car clean during sandstorm season

By Divi S.

Dubai 20 May 2018: Summer season almost is in full swing now, with the recent sand storms as a reminder of what’s t come from sunny Dubai. If you’ve stepped into your parking lot to a layer of sand on your car hood, you don’t need to give up and sell the car just yet! Here are some tips to ensure you get rid of all the sand grains without damaging the paint, so do share with your car wash supplier ahead of the season.

Avoid the sponge
If your car washer is using a sponge to wash your used car, they’re certainly doing it wrong. Due to the flat surface of a sponge, absorbed grit particles on the sponge can damage your paintwork. Moreover, they do not have a firm grip on the dirt. Instead, you should opt for a microfiber mitt or washcloths as they are much softer, can make your car cleaner, and less likely to lead to scratch marks

Let go of the ‘one bucket’ rule
Using just one soap bucket when washing a car, or several, is definitely not best practice. It will cause all the dirt just removed to find its way back on to your car through the cloth because once the dirty cloth gets back in the soap bucket, it contaminates the soap water with dirt.

Pouring used soap water on your car
If your car is last in the queue and gets the dirty soap water pour, you’ll end up with a dirty car again. Clean water is the only way to rinse the car after wash so watch out and put that pour to an end!

Only washing the visible areas
Car wash doesn’t mean just keeping the exterior clean. It is important to check and clean areas which are not visible to the naked eye such as the wheel arches. Buildup of dirt can lead to rust and affect the resale value of your car. It is best to at least rinse these places during the wash.

Not waxing your car
Don’t rule out waxing your car as an unnecessary add on to your list of chores. Car wax adds shine to your car paint and also adds an extra protective clear coat to your car paint to prevent scratches. Believe it or not, many professional car wash services commit these mistakes so never hurts to keep your eyes out and give a little guidance whenever necessary. It’s quite important to keeping your used car in tip top shape, and in case you plan to sell it in near future will be particularly relevant to any used car buyer.
