Mobile winch collapses at Grand Mosque in Makkah

MAKKAH 21 May 2018: The General Presidency of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has said that at 14:30 yesterday a mobile winch working in an isolated zone in the premises of the holy grand mosque in Makkah happened to slip due to overload, resulting in no injuries except for its driver who sustained slight injuries.

The episode took place in the vicinity of gate 160 of the Saudi third expansion project, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

UAE Civil Defence helps control border fire

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence rushed today to the support of its Saudi counterparts in their efforts to control the fire that erupted at Al Batha Border Checkpoint, said Wam.

A joint team of the Civil Defence squad, led by Mubarek Saif Al Mansouri, and Al Dhafra Region Municipality, along with four private businesses, lent a helping hand with 10 water tanks to extinguish the huge fire at the Saudi customs facility.

Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, commended the efforts made by the team in their professional response to the accident.

“This is a direct outcome of the readiness trainings they conduct on a regular basis to hone their skills and boost their capabilities,” Al Rumaithi, who is also the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team, said.

Adding, “Supporting our brothers in emergencies that threaten their safety and stability is part and parcel of the measures we take to safeguard our security and national stability”.
