An Emirati man is on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of trying to kill an American by running him over with his car while the expatriate was jogging.
The defendant also faces terrorism charges, including planning to bomb two Arab TV satellite channels and adopting the ideas of terror groups in Syria.
The prosecutor charged the defendant of premeditated murder attempt after he knocked the American over by his car and tried to finish him off while he was jogging in Bahia area just outside the capital.
“The American fell down and was injured…the defendant kept trying to hit him with his car with the aim to kill him,” the prosecutor said.
Newspapers said the defendant, identified as A.M.G, had travelled to Turkey to join terror groups in Syria but could enter that country, adding that he returned to the UAE and was involved in terror plans.
They quoted the prosecutor as saying the defendant had planned to bomb Sky News Arabia and Al Arabiya satellite TV channels in Abu Dhabi.
