GENEVA 1 March 2019: Yousuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations, UN, Office in Geneva, made a statement on behalf of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain regarding their right to respond to the allegations made by the Qatari Foreign Minister, during the 40th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

“We reaffirm that measures have been taken by four nations to boycott the Qatari regime. We are exercising our sovereign right to protect our national security from Qatar’s irresponsible policies to destabilise our security and stability. It is not a blockade as Qatar claims,” Bucheeri said.

“Our four countries have stressed on more than one occasion that our boycott, which aims to protect our security and people, will end when the Qatari Government ceases to support and finance terrorism and responds to the concerns announced by our leaders repeatedly, to maintain stability in the region,” he added.

“We reaffirm our commitment and willingness to cooperate positively with Kuwait’s mediation, led by His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, to end this political crisis, despite Qatar’s relentless attempts to internationalise it away from its regional origin, resulting in a prolonged political crisis without any real understanding that will ensure the security and stability of our countries and peoples,” he further added, said Wam.
