NEW DELHI, 10th June, 2024 (WAM) – India’s President, Droupadi Murmu, has appointed Narendra Modi as Prime Minister to lead the next government following elections to Lok Sabha, the lower House of Parliament.

“The President, having satisfied herself on the basis of the various letters of support received, that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is in a position to command majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed NDA leader Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India,” a Communiqué issued by Murmu’s Secretariat said.

The President requested Modi to advise her of the date and time of the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister.

She also sought from Modi the names of other persons to be appointed as members of the Union Council of Ministers, the Communiqué added.
