DUBAI 26 January 2019: Dubai has been trying to make life easier for all – even for offenders.
So, now if you are a traffic offender and your car has been impounded by Dubai Police, you can still park it in your garage at home.
The catch is you will not be able to drive it – even surreptitiously- away from the watchful eyes of the police.
Here’s where technology comes in.
Drivers whose cars need to be impounded for traffic violations can now park their vehicles at home and request the Smart Impound service, said Dubai Police.
After the fine is paid, which can be done online from the comfort of your home or office, a small tracking device will be installed inside the car which alerts authorities if the vehicle has been moved.
That stays on until the impound period is over.
