Overhead power lines begin to disappear in Sharjah

SEWA replaces transmission lines with ground cables

SHARJAH 6 August 2017: The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa), has completed a project to replace the overhead power transmission lines that feed the areas of Al Batayeh, AlZubair, Al Bahawi, Al Rahmaniyah, Hamdah and Al Rashidiya with ground power cables exceeding a length of 70 km.

The project is in line with Sewa’s strategy to enhance the efficiency of power grids in the emirate of Sharjah, said Wam.

Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of Sewa, commented that the project aims to achieve security and safety, and serves as a protection from negative climate changes such as humidity, wind, rain and high temperatures on overhead power cables.

He stressed that Sewa is keen to co-ordinate with various public and private bodies to ensure sustainable growth. This will be made possible through the development and implementation of a package of programmes and projects that target all segments of society. The aim is to achieve satisfaction with the services it provides in the fields of electricity, water and natural gas.
