Phoenix, USA flights halted… as it was too hot for planes to fly

More than 40 flights cancelled as mercury was to hit 49°C

DUBAI 21 June 2017: Flights to the major city of Phoenix in Arizona state i USA were halted on fears that it was too hot for the planes, according to reports.

More than 40 flights have been cancelled as mercury was project to hit 49°C.

Apparently, the flights were cancelled as there is a rule among airlines to cap the maximum temperature for planes to fly in.

American Airlines announced it was cancelling dozens of flights scheduled to take off from Sky Harbor airport during the hottest part of the day.

The local Fox News affiliate in Phoenix said the cancellations mostly affected regional flights on the smaller Bombardier CRJ airliners, which have a maximum operating temperature of about 118F (48C), said BBC.

The cancelled flights were scheduled to take off between 15:00 and 18:00 local time.
