Saudi reports electronic attacks on ‘vital’ facilities

Pre-emptive measures are taken

Several vital government facilities in Saudi Arabia have come under electronic attacks and measures are being taken to minimize damage, the Saudi interior ministry has said.

In a statement carried by local newspapers, the ministry said its IT division detected attacks on “several government parties and vital sectors” in the Gulf kingdom.

“These attacks targeted electronic networks in the kingdom through a gap in the e-mail server…security investigations are under way to determine damage and dangers and pre-emptive measures are being taken,” the statement said without providing further details.
