DUBAI 13 June 2019: A parent trying to help cleaners was seen as ‘suspicious’ by the Gems Wellington School authorities, who promptly contacted the parents and sent the children home.

Dubai Police said: “The school management seems to have rushed in sending messages causing unnecessary panic among parents.”

It said that at 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning, a Latin woman in her thirties, used her parent access card to enter the school and performed a suspicious activity in the premises before leaving the location.

The woman entered the school wearing a medical mask and carrying some cleaning powder and detergents in a bid to participate in cleaning of the school and show the school’s cleaners “how to clean properly”, Dubai Police explained.

Aimed to Help

“The woman… did so with the intention of contributing and teaching the workers how to clean the school.”

Colonel Faisal Al Qasim, Director of Security Media at Dubai Police, has called on the public to disregard any rumors regarding the safety and security of the emirate. Al Qasim also called the public to refer to the force’s official channels for reliable information.

“The school administration sent an urgent text message, raising fear in the parents’ eyes,” said a tweet from Dubai Police.

DubaiPolice officers  successfully dealt with the situation and secured the location. All students and academic staff are perfectly safe, it added.
