DUBAI 7 March 2018: Transit travellers passing through Dubai airport will be encouraged to go on a city sightseeing tour if they wish to and if they have enough time between their arriving and connecting flights.

The announcement was made via a tweet from Dubai Government Media Office, which stated that is part of a Dubai Government 10X proposal.

“#Dubai Airports proposes “Microcosm of Dubai” as part of @Dubai10X Initiative overseen by Dubai Future Foundation… In #Dubai transit time will become tourism as passengers are encouraged to leave the airport to experience the city,” said the tweet.

It is understood that the minimum transit time for the proposed city tour will be a stopover of more than four hours. Those stopping over for less than that can see a virtual tour of the city.

Around 14.9 million tourists visit Dubai annually, with a target of 20 million by 2020. Up to 4,500,000 passengers transit through Dubai each month, according to the latest data.
