ABU DHABI 18 June 2017: President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom, expressing heartfelt condolences and sympathy to her, the government, and the people of Britain, particularly the families of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in West London.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent similar cables to Queen Elizabeth, said Wam.
Meanwhile, the ‘missing, presumed dead’ toll in the tragedy has climbed to 58 with possibility of rising.
A huge fire engulfed a 27-story block of flats in central London on Wednesday, reported Reuters.
Citing the London Fire Brigade, the agency said that at least 50 people have been injured in the fire which engulfed all floors from the second to the top of the Grenfell Tower, where several hundred people lived.
“At this time I am very sad to confirm that there have been a number of fatalities, I cannot confirm the number at this time due to the size and complexity of this building,” Dany Cotton, Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade, said.
