DUBAI 8 March 2020: Dubai Police recently surprised a European inmate sentenced to life in prison for murder, with a visit from his only son that he had not seen for years.

The General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments arranged the reunion during the launch of ‘Tomorrow, I Will Fly’, a collection of stories and essays written by a group of Dubai inmates. A creative project which the European inmate had taken part in.

Knowing that the inmate has an only son living in one of the European countries, the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments at Dubai Police contacted him and arranged the meeting.

According to Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments at Dubai Police, the initiative took both the father and son by surprise. He added that it made them happy to see each other after a long separation. “Dubai Police is keen to spread happiness among inmates as a part of its humanitarian initiatives,” Brig. Al Shamali said.

The inmate and his son, in turn, extended their gratitude to Dubai Police for this pleasant surprise.
