Events being suspended to avoid large gatherings

ABU DHABI 5 March 2020: The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) has already claimed two UAE-based global events — UAE Tour (last two stages cancelled) and Gov Games (postponed), which was to feature teams from 171 countries.

As concerns grow, more and more local events are being cancelled or postponed to avoid larges gatherings as the virus spreads among humans in close proximity. However, most are going forward as planned.

UAE Pro League suspends spectator attendance

The UAE Pro League, the nation’s professional football league, announced on Wednesday that it has suspended all spectator attendance to its competitions.

In a statement, the League said that it is “coordinating with the relevant authorities in the country regarding the current health situation,” and in keeping with the principles of public safety, is applying “preventive and precautionary measures taken by the various entities”.

The UAE Pro League has “decided to suspend fan attendance in all its competitions until further notice, for the safety of the public,” the statement concluded.

Yogafest Al Ain 2020 Postponed

Yogafest Al Ain has been postponed by the organizers keeping everyone’s health and safety in mind.

“Yogafest is an event focused toward health and wellness and we believe that prevention is better than cure,” said Elaine Kelly, Founder of Yogafest. “In the light of recent events and the spread of the virus, it would be best for everyone to avoid public events and spaces, so postponing the event was the right thing to do,” she said.

Yogafest Middle East will return to Al Ain and Dubai at a later date.

Opening of Abu Dhabi’s third Multi-Faith Prayer Room postponed

The opening of Abu Dhabi’s third Multi-Faith Prayer Room in Sun Tower on Al Reem Island has been postponed to a later date.

Club Social 2020 postponed

Out of concern for the health and well-being of our attendees, Club Social 2020 has been postponed until further notice.

Club Social 2020, which was scheduled to take place from March 12 to 14 at Yas Links, Yas Island, with headliners Liam Gallagher, Kaiser Chiefs and Clean Bandit will now take place at a later date this year. This decision is the result of careful assessment and consultation with leading entities in Abu Dhabi.

Ticket-holders who purchased their tickets from TicketMaster will be reimbursed.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and reassure fans that a new date for the festival will be announced soon, said a statement.

Launch of Rainforest Terrace at Green Planet Plaza

Unfortunately, the launch of the Rainforest Terrace at the Green Planet Plaza on 4th March 2020 will have to be rescheduled to another date and time.
