RIYADH 3 March 2020: The Saudi Ministry of Health yesterday reported the first case of new coronavirus, Covid-19, for a citizen coming from Iran through the Kingdom of Bahrain.

“The citizen did not disclose his presence in Iran at the Saudi port,” the ministry said in a statement published by the state news agency, SPA and Wam.

The ministry further stated that a sample for a laboratory examination of the person confirmed that he was infected with the virus.

Ten new coronavirus cases in Kuwait

KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Health Ministry revealed on Monday that within the previous 24-hours, ten new coronavirus cases were registered in the country.

The Kuwait News Agency and Wam reported the ministry’s Assistant Under-Secretary, Dr. Buthaina Al Mudhaf, as saying that the new cases were associated with patients who had travelled into the country from Iran.

She explained – during the daily briefing held by the ministry – that all the inflicted patients were Kuwaiti nationals, adding that they were all in a stable condition.

Coronavirus claims its first UN casualty

UNITED NATIONS: The deadly coronavirus Covid-19, which is spreading across China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Italy, the Philippines – along with new cases in Asia, Western Europe and the Middle East – has claimed one of its first casualties at the United Nations, IPS reported.

The annual inter-governmental meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women, CSW, due to take place March 9-20, is being described as dead on arrival, DOA, said Wam.

But it is still likely to take place as scheduled minus the participation of over 5,000 to 6,000 delegates from overseas.

The 11-day meeting, the largest single gathering of women delegates from 193 countries, is being significantly downgraded because of the threat of Covid-19.

The United States, meanwhile, has postponed its own summit of world leaders of the 10-member Association of South East Asian Nations, Asean, due to take place in Las Vegas March 14.
